Graduate Art Gallery Assistant: University Galleries
As part of my graduate assistantship, I work as a Gallery Assistant at University Galleries in Uptown, Normal. A few tasks I perform include planning and leading hands-on artmaking workshops for all ages, assisting with daily gallery operations, de-installation and installation of all exhibitions, as well as setting up for receptions and visiting artist lectures. This position has given me amazing opportunities to engage with people traveling from out of town, who are local, are of all different ages and backgrounds, all giving me experiences and opportunities that help me further develop my teaching pedagogy as well as my own creative practices.
Workshop + Zine Launch Party in Collaboration w/Bloomington Public Library
I had the privilege of leading a Found Poetry Zine Workshop in collaboration with Bloomington Public Library, inspired by Jen Bervin’s Shift Rotate Reflect exhibition. 17 attendants, all ages, designed their own zines that were then presented as a bundle for a launch party hosted at BPL.
All Ages Artmaking Workshop: Narratives in Weaving
I was fortunate enough to lead a paper weaving workshop inspired by Jen Bervin’s On Weaving and Draft Notations. Bervin’s artwork was inspired by the 1965 book by Anni Albers, Draft Notation. Participants were able to explore the weaving process using text to create new narratives.
High School Summer Art Camp
One of the activities I planned and prepared for the University Galleries high school week-long intensive was stained glass mosaic art making. Students were introduced to artists such as Japheth Asiedu-Kwarteng and the relationship between textiles, patterns, and symbolism that can translate into mosaic creations.

EDUCATIONAL HANDOUTS
As a Graduate Gallery Assistant in ISU’s Art Education Department, I have the opportunity to design instructional handouts that accompany the workshops I support and lead at University Galleries in Normal, IL. These handouts are created so that anyone unable to attend the workshop can still follow the steps and complete the activity at home, making it an accessible tool for all.
